Free Space Participates in the SIMMER Project within PNS Initiatives

Free Space is proud to take part in the SIMMER project, selected under the BATCH 3 call of the Polo Nazionale della Dimensione Subacquea (PNS), alongside Carbon Dream and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna.

SIMMER is part of a broader research effort promoted by PNS to develop advanced materials capable of operating in extreme underwater environments, where conventional materials reach their limits due to intense pressure and mechanical stress. At depths of around 3,000 meters, for example, pressure levels are equivalent to the weight of a tugboat concentrated on the surface of a postage stamp.

Within the SIMMER project, Free Space contributes to the design of acoustic metamaterials, engineered materials that enable precise control and manipulation of sound propagation in underwater environments. These solutions play a key role in advancing technologies for research, defence, and marine applications.

We are pleased to collaborate with highly qualified partners on this multidisciplinary and forward-looking challenge, bringing our expertise to the development of innovative solutions for extreme subaqueous conditions.
