On September 11, CNIT RaSS Lab hosted the kick-off meeting of SIVAL - Benchmark, Simulation, Measurement and RCS Evaluation for Electromagnetic Performance of Complex Military Platforms, an European Defence Agency project involving a remarkable number of partners (10) across the electromagnetic engineering and defence sectors.

The kick-off marked the start of the consortium’s joint work on a key challenge in electromagnetic engineering: achieving reliable and comparable evaluation of the electromagnetic performance of complex platforms through the combined use of simulation, measurement and benchmarking.

The consortium includes expertise in RCS simulation, electromagnetic modelling, materials and metasurfaces, measurement facilities and benchmarking methodologies. The meeting provided the opportunity to define the framework for collaboration across the different work packages and establish the priorities for the first six months of activity.

A key aspect of SIVAL will be the development of common approaches for exchanging model data and simulation results, alongside benchmarks that enable meaningful comparison between simulations and measurements. The project will also address the evaluation of complex platforms incorporating composite materials, metamaterials and metasurfaces.
